On October 20, as a part of the Japan-China International Solidarity Project on Afforestation and Tree-planting organized by Japan-China Friendship Center, representatives from participating countries planted trees and unveiled the commemorative monument together with Mr. Yutaka SAKUMA, vice governor of Niigata Prefecture, and Ms. Shoko NOJIMA, vice mayor of Niigata City.   They planted Yukitsubaki, which is designated as the Niigata prefectural tree.  

High school students summit on "World Tsunami Awareness Day" 2022 in Niigata was  held on Oct.19 and 20.   Around 250 high school students from 26 countries gathered together to discuss and learn what we can do to protect our lives from natural hazards. What they discussed was sumarized into "Niigata Phoenix Declaration."   Further information will be provided shortly.

A pre-study session was held on August 5. 58 high school students from all over Niigata Prefecture came together in Niigata City.   In the morning, Mr. Ohta from Niigata Local Meteorological Office gave an informative lecture about the mechanism of earthquakes and tsunamis. Students also watched a video about the Niigata Earthquake and learned what kind of damage the tsunami caused.   In the afternoon, they made presentations about their plan for their survey and had lively discussions. Overall, they deepened knowledge about disaster prevention and raised awareness of disaster risks.
