Survey | Introduction | 1 Survey on the facts about Okozu Diversion Channel Japan is an island nation surrounded by the water and has a lot of steep rivers and streams of frequent rain falls through the year. Niigata Prefecture has one of the longest river named Shinano, which has caused terrible flood damage countless times. Just 100 years ago, in our town, on the purpose of flood prevention and water utilization, the Asia biggest diversion channel from the river to the sea was built. It has been a big success to make local life easier with fewer floods caused and more crops produced. From this great achievement, we hope to find some hints to reduce future disaster damage and help improve our life quality. 2 Survey on the awareness of local high school students High school students bear the future of the society. They should be highly aware of risks like disasters and be responsible for prevention and build-back-better. Our survey casts light upon students’ awareness of disasters and suggests what they should learn and how they should take action to achieve the resilient society and the SDGs. |
